According to the most recent statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Athens had the highest employment rate in Georgia in December 2021, at 66.9 percent. There were 213,800 people in the labor force, and 143,000 of them were working.

The city also had the lowest jobless rate in the state, at 3.3%, which is much lower than the national average of 3.9%. Also, in the fourth quarter of 2021, salaries in Athens grew by an impressive 8.9 percent over the previous year, which was the highest rise of any Georgian city.

The average weekly wage in Athens was $1,082, which was more than the $1,063 average in the state and the $1,093 average across the country.
